ABOUT LGSS

Who Manages The League?

The league is managed by a committee of volunteers. The committee organizes the teams within each league, schedules games and works with the City of Lorain to maintain the softball fields.

When And Where Are Games Played?

Games begin the first week of June. All games are played at Lakeview Park (Lakeview Drive, Lorain, Ohio 44052). Games are played Monday – Thursday at 5:30 pm or 7:15 pm. Coaches my ask that you arrive at the fields shortly before your game time.

When And Where Are Practices?

Practices usually start the first week of May and your coach will notify you of your practice schedule. Most coaches have their practices at Lakeview Park, but may schedule a practice at a different location if needed.

What Happens If A Game Is Rained Out?

Coaches will notify all players as soon as possible if a game is cancelled due to weather. All games will be rescheduled and played. Follow us on Facebook as we quickly post when games are rained out and provide updated schedules.

When Will I Know What Team I’m On?

Coaches will reach out to all players late April. We would like to have all players contacted and beginning practices by the first week of May. If you do not hear from your coach, please contact us.

Who Are The Coaches?

The coaches are volunteers. Some coaches have players within the league while other coaches return year after year even if their child has finished playing.

What Does My League Fee Cover?

League fees will provide all players with a team jersey, helmets, bats and softballs. Each player will receive a certificate or trophy at the end of the season. T-Ball and Rookie leagues will have a team pizza party while the Intermediate and Minor leagues will have an All-Star game. League fees also go towards maintaining the fields and providing umpires.

What Do We Wear For Games?

All players will need to provide their own softball glove. Coaches will determine if the players will need to wear either shorts or softball pants.  While cleats are recommended, tennis shoes are permitted. Hats or visors are also encouraged.

What Is The Difference Between The Rookie And The Intermediate League?

The Rookie league is for children ages 7 to 9 years old. Within this league, the coaches pitch to the players and remain in the outfield to help the players learn how to play defense in the field. This league is recommended for first year players. The Intermediate league is for children ages 9 to 12 years old. Within the league, the players pitch and the coaches remain in the dugout while the team is in the field. This is a more advanced league with competitive play.
